Concrete Supply to RJ McLeod Fraserburgh Harbour
LONGSIDE CONCRETE PLANT HAS
RECENTLY COMPLETED ONE OF ITS MOST
DEMANDING PROJECTS, SUPPLYING
CONCRETE TO RJ MCLEOD FOR THE
BALACLAVA BREAKWATER REPAIRS.
The work involved concrete supply for the widening and
refacing of the existing Balaclava Breakwater. The wall was
widened by 900mm over 119m and was an extension of
the works carried out by RJ McLeod in 2019.
A concrete with a macro fibre was specified and changes
were made to the mix design to facilitate early strength
development so that formwork could be striked the
following day. There was also a requirement for some
underwater concrete for void repairs which was placed
by Shearwater Marine, a diving and marine engineering
contractor. All pours were placed by concrete pump and
were subject to weather conditions, tide times and sea
swell. Initial pours were limited, however, Leiths worked
closely with RJ McLeod during these challenging conditions
accommodating pours when it was acceptable for placing
concrete.
Concrete supply to the Balaclava Breakwater was completed
in June with Longside Concrete supplying circa 1,000m³ .
