Build Your Future Finals – Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen
On Thursday 30 January 2025, Leiths once again
attended the Build Your Future Finals at Pittodrie
Stadium in Aberdeen.
The event aims to excite the next generation about a
career in the construction industry and showcase the range
of jobs available to them within it. Schools across the
North East who have made it through the heats compete in
a number of exciting challenges for points, with the winner
being presented with a trophy (from our very own Blackhills
granite!) and some money for their school. We have been
involved in the programme since its inception many years
ago and have continued to show our support ever since.
After the success of the two challenges we put on last year,
we knew we had to come with additional reinforcements.
This year we brought two simulators and extra staff
members from the technical team.
Despite a few virtual roll overs and some pretty hefty
virtual damage coming out of their virtual pay packets, the
students did extremely well on the simulators. The same
cannot be said for the sheepish adults who squeezed in a
go between schools!
On the technical side, the students were presented with the
dam building challenge - construct the best dam possible
in the tight time limit, using a mixture of aggregates, sand,
and gravel. When the time was up the students could only
watch as water poured in, and they nervously competed to
keep the ‘town’ on the other side safe for the longest time.
After a day of whizzing around all the various challenges on
offer, the students piled into their seats upstairs in the
hospitality lounge. After a nervous wait for the points to be
tallied the winner was announced… Ellon Academy!
A huge thank you goes out to all the staff who made our
challenges possible on the day, the kids clearly appreciated
it! A great day was had by all, and we look forward to
participating again next year in order to keep shining a light
on the brilliant industry we work in.

Leiths have been visible at
over 12 careers fairs in
both Aberdeen City,
Aberdeenshire and
Morayshire during the
2024/2025 school year.
This demonstrates our
commitment to
engaging with
schools and investing
in the local area.
Managers,
Apprentices, HR, and
Senior Leaders have
attended these
events to provide
an insight into our Company, to
give advice and guidance on the
wide range of job roles and
career paths on offer within the
Careers
Fairs
Leiths Group, and the wider scope
in the Construction and Quarrying
industries.
We have spoken to S1 - S6 pupils
in person and this face-to-face
interaction is invaluable in the
digital era we live in. We have also
spoken with parents, teachers and
guidance departments and given
encouragement to those wishing
to enter the industry at apprentice
level and to those who wish to
gain a quali昀椀cation before
entering the world of work.
Networking and working closely
with local colleges, universities
and training providers enables us
to get the best out of these bodies
to provide the best training for our
employees and future workforce.
Education establishments can
further enhance the detail we
discuss with interested pupils to
review professional development
and career progression routes.
Attendance at these events allows
us to tap into talent pools which
may not always be available, and
we will continue to promote entry
level roles while working closely
with Developing Young Workers
(DYWNE) to assist in achieving
our commitment to the Young
Persons Guarantee.
