We were delighted to have been chosen as 昀椀nalists
for the Northern Star Inspiring Futures Award in
November 2024.
CECA Academy
Industry Engagement
2025
Students supervising material delivery at UHI’s Balloch School of Forestry Campus.
At the beginning of March,
Leiths were approached by The
University of Highlands & Islands
(UHI) to make a donation of
materials to the Civil Engineering
Contractors Association (CECA)
engagement events.
The events are held twice per year
at various locations throughout
Scotland and this included both the
Inverness Campus and Fort William
Campus where Leiths donated
5 tonnes of type 1 and 5 tonnes
of concrete mix delivered to both
sites. This is the second year UHI
have run these courses in
conjunction with CECA.
The course is aimed at providing
a hands-on practical introduction
to construction by teaching the
basics in disciplines ranging from
kerbing, drainage, concrete works
and surfacing, plus many other
trades. The typical intake is around
18 students aged 16 years upwards
and recently included a 39 year old
female student who has now gone
on to become a site manager with
leading local contractor, Global
Infrastructure. The course is
modular based with no 昀椀nal exam
but allows the students to obtain a
CITB CSCS card upon completion.
The 昀椀nal ceremony took place on 25 April 2025 at the
P&J Live and it was a true honour to be nominated for
this award which shows our dedication to all the work
we have done to encourage and develop the younger
generation.
A huge thank you also goes out to everyone within
our group who have been involved in taking the time
to attend career events and evenings. It is very much
appreciated!
Upon completion of the course,
graduates receive a certi昀椀cate of
satisfactory completion and the
opportunity to meet with
participating CECA members
- which generally results in all the
students being offered full time
employment or enrolling in further
college courses.

Lochaber Rugby Club Sponsorship - Silver Saturday 19 April 2025
The Lochaber Rugby Club men’s
squad, who have been sponsored
by Leiths for many years, travelled
down to Edinburgh on Saturday 19
April for the National Bowl 昀椀nal at
Murray昀椀eld’s Hive Stadium with
Earlston, off the back of winning
the West Bowl competition in
February and a national
semi-昀椀nal in March with a 22-10
昀椀nal scoreline.
Lochaber captain Calum Sandison
said: “Saturday was a huge day
for Lochaber Rugby Club’s senior
men’s team. The vast majority of
players in the squad have
progressed together through the
club’s youth programme.
These numbers are now helping us
reach the squad depth needed to
regularly compete as the season
gathers momentum, allowing
greater consistency and accuracy
in our performances.
This season has been shaped by
the contributions of our 37 playing
members who have been coached
by former players, captains, and
presidents of the club in the shape
of Ali MacKinnon, Graham MacNab,
and Stewart Sandison.”
Although the game resulted in a
62-14 loss for the team, the 昀椀xture,
and season as a whole, reflects
the growth and development of the
entire club.
